A rock & roll retelling of Shakespeare's beloved rom-com about two pairs of lovers with differing ideas about romance and ways with words. Heading up rival 90s bands, Beatrice and Benedick are still smarting from bad experiences in some form of past relationship.
As such, they work overtime to give the impression that there is definitely no interest and nothing at all is going on between them. Other than a 'merry war' that is. Mercilessly teasing and insulting one another, they repeatedly deny that they will ever marry anyone, least of all each other...
This is a comedy that's filled with darkness as much as it is with sunlight, it's about repressed feelings as much as it's about love declared openly, and it's an investigation of what cannot be spoken as much as it revels in delights of speaking. With shambolic security guards, layer upon layer of deliberate deception and a good dose of non-cliched romance, this fever-pitched 70-minute reworking of a classic will not fail to delight!
Presented by the Australian Shakespeare Company's Graduate Players ensemble before they embark on their international tour of Prague.
